Our world and its people
are in a fragile state.
This is my concern:
*People and nations have put the desire for progress, political gain, to be a world power, to have superior technology, etc., over the survival of our planet and its population. Water has been polluted. Trees cut down, rainforests (our main source of oxygen) are being destroyed due to the tremendous "need" for timber, to make way for construction, or for farm and pasture land. Topsoil that took millennia to make, has been lost primarily as a result of poor crop growing procedures. The atmosphere has been dangerously polluted by industrialized nations. Plants and animals have become extinct and many have been subjected to chemicals and/or genetic engineering in the name of profit. *We are rapidly approaching the point of no return. I have seen documentaries that report there will not be enough drinkable water to support the Earth's population. The changes in the atmosphere may cause an oxygen deficit, and is bringing about global warming and resulting devastating effects. Deadly new illnesses and diseases have developed as a result of the human impact on the world. *Each of us can help to reverse this process of destruction. I wanted to share a song I wrote with all of you here. It is intended to give the citizens of Haiti, HOPE and the people who want to help them, INSPIRATION. It’s called Haiti Forever.
Haiti we will be there, In your time of need,
Your pain we share, And our hearts bleed,
A place of hope, In the hearts of the young,
A place of despair, In the minds of old,
Haiti we will not forget, You suffered before,
For this we regret, Closed too soon the door,
Haiti forever, This is our call,

We Can Save Our Planet
People of the world unite and show that we all care. Let's make this earth a better place for people everywhere. We're running out of space and we waste an awful lot. We've got to make some changes, take care of what we've got. We can save our planet...there's so much that can be done, With support from everyone...We can save our planet Let's do it we know how...and the time to act is now! People in this world need water and clean air. We must stop polluting... to have enough to share. We will save our forests... get rid of acid rain. Help protect our wildlife... there's so much to be gained. There's so much that can be done... with support from everyone. We can save our planet...Let's do it, we know how, And the time to act is now. We can make the difference... It's up to you and me. Care for the environment and live in harmony. We can make the difference... Just lend a helping hand.

Jacques Edouard Alexis: 1947 - Alexis was born in Gonaives, Haiti on the 21st of September. 1970 - Graduated at the State University of Haiti. 1990-1995 - Became the first rector of the University of Quisqueya. 1996-1998 - Appointed Minister for National Education, Young People and Sport. 1999-2001 - Became Prime Minister of Haiti. 2006 - Re-elected
Theodore Beaubrun: 1918 - Born on December 26th in Port-Au-Prince. Theodore Beaubrun, Haiti's most famous comic actor, journalist, dramatist, teacher, and satirist.1938 - Theodore Beaubrun composed a decent sketch: Languichatte Avocat.1941 - Used radio, as a medium for his comical sketches with Jean Faublas, and Georges Karaha.
Boniface Alexandre: 1936 - Boniface Alexandre was born on July 1936. 1990 - Boniface Alexandre was appointed to Haiti's Supreme Court. 2003 - Boniface Alexandre made an honorary citizen of Lafayette, Louisiana, USA on the 25th of April and teaches at the University of the Port-au-Prince. 2004 - Alexandre was the Chief Justice.
W.E.B. Dubois – Famous American Civil Rights Leader whose parents migrated from Haiti.
Toussaint Louverture “The Black Napoleon” – Black Freedom fighter who in 1803 would open the way for the First Black Republic in the World, Ayiti (Haiti). He died in a french jail before seeing a free Haiti, which in 1804 became the 2nd country in the Americas after the U.S. to become independent
Jean-Jacques Dessalines – Leader of the First Black Republic in the World
Alexandre Petion – Haitian Leader who would help the founder of Latin American Independence, Simon Bolivar (The country of Bolivia is named after him), by providing weapons and soldiers with the promise Bolivar would free all the slaves in places he liberated.
Henry Christophe – Famous Haitian King who build the Citadelle in Haiti which is a huge fortress representing freedom. As a young boy, he was one of many slave soldiers recruited by the French in then the colony of Saint Domingue (which would later become Haiti) to fight alongside the Americans in the American Revolution in 1779 against the British in Savanah Georgia. Today, there is a Statue in Savanah Georgia representing the little known fact of Haiti’s small contributions in U.S. History
Jean Baptiste Pointe Du Sable – Free Black Slave from Haiti who would become a very successful trader in America. In 1779, he established the first permanent settlement of the city of Chicago. He is known today as the founder of that city.
Dr. Rose Marie Toussaint – One of only two women liver transplant surgeon in the world
John James Audubon (1785–1851), an artist and ornithologist, was born in Haiti.
The writers Éméric Bergeaud (1818–58), Oswald Durand (1840–1906), Philippe Thoby-Marcelin (1904–75), Jacques Roumain (1907–44), and Jean Fernand Brierre (b.1909) have won international literary recognition. Noted poets include the dramatist Pierre Faubert (1803–68), Corolian Ardouin (1812–35), Alibée Féry (1819–96), and Charles-Seguy Villavaleix (1835–1923). Haitian artists include the sculptor Edmond Laforestière (1837–1904); the primitive painter Héctor Hippolyte (1890–1948), leader of the Afro-Art Renaissance in the Caribbean; Wilson Bigaud (b. 1931); and Jacques Enguérrand Gourge (1931–1996). The Haiti earthquake grabbed me and the world like an angry parent
Shaking us to the core testing to see if we had learned to play nicely
Bringing us, the world, together
I could not even think of buying an extravagant anything as the immediacy and reality of the horror of haiti unfolded
These became, not the 'people suffering on the other side of the world"
These were real people with hearts and homes
I know, in tragedy, they always are
But with the world and twitter they became real
The grief as sobering and sad as if it were my people
With the world as it is I guess we are now a global people, and so it makes sense that these are, in fact, now my people
But it is not that the earthquake happened, but how we responded, that matters
Humanity, in this case, has taken my breath away
